Weather Update: Light rain forecast for Cape Town, thunderstorms watch for Eastern Cape
Cape Town - South African Weather Service (SAWS) warns that high fire danger conditions continue in SA's west, while severe thunderstorms are expected in eastern parts of the country on Wednesday, 14 March.
A 30%-60% chance of rain is expected in parts of SA on Wednesday, and Capetonians may rejoice in much-needed scattered evening rain which is forecast for the drought-stricken coastal part of the Western Cape.
SAWS warns that extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in the interior of the Northern Cape and extreme western part of the Free State.
For Wednesday, a watch has also been issued for severe thunderstorms expected in the north-eastern interior of the Eastern Cape.
On Wednesday, SAWS predicts a 60% chance of rain in the north-eastern part of Eastern Cape.
A further 30% chance of showers is expected over eastern and central Eastern Cape, north-eastern and eastern parts of Northern Cape, all of North West, Gauteng, Free State and Lesotho, extreme southern part of Limpopo, and south-western parts of Mpumalanga and KZN.
A 30% chance of evening rain is also forecast along the coastal region of the drought-stricken Western Cape, stretching from St Helena Bay to George.
Minimum temperatures on Wednesday will be cool in south-western parts and north-eastern interior of SA, and mild throughout the rest of the country.
Sutherland in Northern Cape will be the coldest place in SA, dropping to 9°C.
Maximum temperatures will be cool to mild along the south and west coasts and southern interior. It will be warm to hot throughout the rest of SA, and very hot in northern parts of Mpumalanga and Limpopo.
The hottest place in SA will be Skukuza in Mpumalanga, reaching a high of 38°C.
Pretoria in Gauteng is set to reach a high of 31°C, while Johannesburg will reach 28°C. Bloemfontein in the Free State will be 31°C.
Along the coastal regions, Cape Town in the Western Cape will reach a cool 22°C, Port Elizabeth in Eastern Cape will see a high of 26°C, while Durban in KZN will be 31°C.
