SA Express announces new route between Joburg and Mthatha

Connectivity between Eastern Cape and Gauteng just got a boost as SA express announced on Tuesday that it will be introducing a new route between Mthatha and Johannesburg.

The daily flight from OR Tambo International Airport will commence from 10 December in time for the busy holiday period, with the intention of increasing frequency early in the new year if there is demand.

This appears to form part of their recovery plan after having been grounded by the South African Civil Aviation Authority in May earlier this year for 'severe non-compliance', which resulted in the suspension of their routes for a few months. They resumed most flights in August.

“As we approach the end-of-year holidays, the newly introduced flights will provide the much-needed choice for the growing VFR (Visiting Friends and Family) market segment who would be seeking to spend quality time with friends and loved ones after a long and demanding year,” says the airline's interim CEO Siza Mzimela.

With this new route, SA Express's number of routes now total eight local and international routes, which include Lubumbashi in the DRC, Walvis Bay in Namibia, Bloemfontein, Kimberley and Hoedspruit among others.
