No reservations needed - Cape Town restaurants where you don't require a booking during the busy summer season

The Mother City is jam-packed over the summer season with tourists and locals flocking to this trendy gastronomic hub for yummy food, drinks and views.

Yet, more often than not, the laid back feeling of summer washes over you like a crisp-cool wave at Muizenberg Beach, and you it slips your mind to plan ahead.

You try to find a last-minute restaurant to take visiting friends and family, but damn, all has been booked out.

Don't fret, as Cape Town luckily has a few gems where no booking is required.

One to watch...

The Commissary opens its doors on November 1st and is a new pared down, food market-esque concept that The Shortmarket Club Chef and co-founders Wesley Randles and Simon Widdison and their team will head up six evenings a week. “A commissary is a basic provisions store which you’ll find in the army, hospitals and prisons – and while we definitely won’t be serving prison fare, we’re taking things back to basics in a big way with our new dining venture”, says Wesley.  The Commissary will be located at 88 Shortmarket Street and won't take any bookings.
