Cape Winelands: Must-do Summer events

Cape Town - The summer mood is undeniable in Cape Town - bringing the festive feel to South Africa. Cape Town is known for its pristine beaches, the towering Table Mountain and the rolling hills of the winelands.

South African wine is celebrated and revered all over the world with many countries importing our nation's products.

International Pinotage Day is taking place on 14 October 2017 and is kicking off the festive wine season with a bang. It is almost time to bring out those summer shades and epic #WinenotWednesday posts - because any day is a good day for wine!

Soon we will be enjoying a sweet glass of Rose as we cool off in the shade, with family and friends, on one of South Africa's charming wine farms. 

Keep up to date with these wine events for your summer weekend plans.

Nectar of the Gods events: 

1. The Franschhoek Cape Classique and Champagne Festival 

Dress to impress at the wine event of the year as you sip on South Africa's finest Methode Cape Classique and French champagnes. The theme includes black or white outfits with a splash of color and will host delicious food vendors at the festival to pair your wine's with the best of the best. 

DATE:  2 - 3 December 2017

VENUE: Franschhoek Monument

2. International Pinotage Day with Lanzerac Wine Estate 

The Stellenbosch winelands is the perfect spot to celebrate International Pinotage Day. The Lanzerac Wine Estate is hosting a celebration in honour of Pinotage and is a must attend event for all wine lovers. The event will include a Pinotage wine tasting, a Pinotage picnic basket and live performances by folk indie band BrotherBrother. Entry to the festival is free of charge but bookings for the picnic baskets, wine tasting and the Lanzerac deli are essential.

VENUE: Lanzerac Wine Estate 

COST:  R400 per couple for a single picnic basket, R50 per person for a wine tasting session.

3. Art Franschhoek 

The Cape winelands have more than just wine on offer as there is a selection of the finest art held at the wineries. Various art exhibits will be shown from 27 October to 27 November at some of the Franschhoek wine estates. South Africa's acclaimed contemporary artists' work will be showcased at the world renowned Everard Read Gallery and makes it the art event of the year. Click here for a detailed program overview.

4. LOrmains Farm and Anthonji Rupert Wine estate

Bask in the rolling valleys of Franschhoek's wine estate at LOrmains Farm and Anthonji Rupert Wine estate. The estate is offering a package that will keep your day full at the estate - wine tasting, a delicious lunch, a visit to the motor museum and a scenic tram ride through the estate and surrounding areas.

5. Anthonji Rupert Estate's annual winelands festival - The Protea Party 

Get ready to put on your dancing shoes for the annual celebration at the Anthonji Rupert Estate. The evening is comprised of an exclusive fine dining experience paired with delicious wines. Seating is limited and booking in essential.

COST: R550 per person, including a three-course meal, wines and live entertainment.

6. Season of Sauvignon 

The crisp and fruity flavors of Sauvignon wine is the ideal refresher to the warm summer days and this can be found in the Durbanville wine valley. The Durbanville wine valley is welcoming wine lovers to experience its 11 prestigious wine farms that are a mere 30 minutes from the Cape Town city centre.

7. The Java MTB Challenge 

The Van Loveren wine estate was awarded a trophy winner in the Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits awards of 2017. The wine estate was awarded for their deliciously unique coffee style Pinotage. The event will be celebrated on international Pinotage day and includes a trail run where all proceeds will go to uplfiting the local communities.  Enjoy an alternative experience to the usual wine festival and explore the outdoor winelands.

8. Pinotage Day 

Celebrate Pinotage day with a tasting that is straight out of the barrel at Mellasat Vineyards - paired with snoek roulade, biltong sqaure, bobotie tartlet and boerewors kebabs. Lunch will be served at an additional cost of R105 to R120 depending on the choice of menu.

9. Robertson Wine on the River 

Hosting over 30 different wineries, the Robertson wine on the river festival is the ideal open-air spring festival. Unwind and relax as you listen to local bands perform or taste deli treats from various vendors. There will be designated entertainment and activities for the kids, making it a family affair. 

DATE: 20 - 22 October 2017 

VENUE: Goudmyn Farm

10. Pederberg October Festival 

A wine event that is filled with fun and activity - from food trucks to foam pits, this festival has it all. There will be selected wines at a steal and this year craft beer has been included in the festivities. 

DATE: 28 October 2017

VENUE: Pederberg Cellar 

COST: R80 per person at the door and R60 pre-sold tickets that can be purchased here. Entrance is free for kids under the age of 12.

11. Villiera Wines: Fizzytherapy Summer Festival 

Dress in floral garments when you attend the Fizzytherapy summer festival at Villiera Wines. There will be food and wine - what more could anyone need to enjoy the warm summer days.

12. Splash of Pink Paul Rene Bubbly Festival 

This event is for the Rose lovers and pink bubbly dreamers. There will be gourmet treats on offer from Norwegian salmon to Saldana Bay oysters as well as discount sales on bubbly. Arno Carstens will be performing live at the event and you can enjoy a scenic horse ride through the vineyards.
